Erich Kadow Interpretation and Design Ltd

Erich Kadow teamed up with Jef Maytom of Maytom Associates for a commission from the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) based in Portsmouth. This involved the creation of an Interpretation Plan and Exhibition Design for HMS Caroline, moored in Alexander Dock, Belfast. Having produced the Interpretation Strategy for the successful round one HMS Caroline Heritage Lottery Find application, Erich Kadow and Jef Maytom acquired a unique understanding of the ship and an enormous insight into the layout, structure and unique history of the vessel.

NMRN and the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment (DETI) have applied to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £14m to pay for the repairs, restoration and interpretation of the vessel. If successful, the implementation will take place over the next years with an opening anticipated in Summer 2016.

HMS Caroline is listed as part of the National Historic Fleet, Core Collection. The significance of the vessel is largely due to it being the sole survivor, still afloat, which took part in the Battle of Jutland during World War One in 1916, a battle which was pivotal in the outcome of the war, as it put the German High Seas Fleet out of action.
